True Crime Tale by UNCW’s de Gramont an instant hit

Released in the United States on February 1, The Christie Affaira novel by Nina de Gramont, UNCW creative writing faculty member and alumnus 06MFA, was immediately acclaimed.

The book explores the 11-day disappearance of the late bestselling novelist Agatha Christie following news that her husband was leaving her for his mistress.

“True crime aficionados…this book is for you!” Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon wrote in an Instagram post announcing it as her February Book Club Selection. “I loved it so much, I read it in one go,” she shared with her 27.3 million followers.

Currently sixth on The Times of London bestseller list, the new release was named a “must-read mystery” by Amazon book reviewdo The most anticipated books by Goodreads members in 2022 and Barnes and Noble’s most anticipated new book releases in February 2022 lists, among others. Miramax TV opted for the rights to the novel.

Also known as Marina Gessner, from Gramont teaches fiction, creative non-fiction and the art of personal essay at UNCW. His other published works include Starling gossip; Of cats and men; Every little thing in the world and The last september.
